Retail worker leaves mid-shift to go to the movies, complying with manager's strict overtime policy: 'I had hit 40 hours and had to leave'

Every worker has wished for a proper excuse to get up and walk out in the middle of the workday at some point in their professional lives.

It's human nature to want to take a temporary break from one's responsibilities every once in a while. Of course, you don't want to make a habit of anything. After all, we need to afford rent, and jobs inevitably help with that. Still, who doesn't deserve the occasional day to retreat from one's obligations in a way that doesn't affect others meaningfully?

This retail worker was a big Star Wars person, which meant that the opening of the latest entry in the franchise was always going to be a significant day for them. Everyone knew this, and yet, he was still scheduled for a shift that overlapped with Friday night of opening weekend despite all efforts on his part to avoid that window. 

Thankfully, the retail worker had already put in 36 hours that week, and management had recently enforced a new policy prohibiting employees from working overtime. This motivated the employee to walk out without telling anyone as soon as he reached 40 hours.
